What are the best qualities in a junk removal company?

When you are looking for a junk removal company, you may be thinking that the only real thing that matters is for them to show up as agreed upon and take everything away in an efficient manner. There’s a bit more to it than simply picking everything up, however, and you will want to make sure that you are dealing with the right company.

That leads to the next logical question: what are the top qualities that you should look for in a junk removal company?

To give you a bit of a hand in your search, here is a list of five qualities that you should be looking for in any company that you are considering hiring. If your top choice doesn’t offer these benefits, it would be a wise idea to move on to one of your other choices. With a little bit of research, you will find a company that is right for you, and which has each of these qualities.

  • They Should Have Excellent Customer Reviews

It is always reassuring to see or hear great reviews about the company you are dealing with. It can put your mind at ease because you will know that you are likely to receive a high level of service. Bear in mind that you probably will not find any company with perfect reviews. There will always be the occasional negative one, simply because human beings make mistakes. It is also quite easy to leave negative reviews online, especially if they can be left anonymously. Added to that is the fact that someone who has had a negative experience is more likely to tell others about it than someone who has had a positive experience.

That said, by reading enough reviews, and by seeking out whatever information you can find, you will be able to piece together a reasonable view of what to expect from a given company, in terms of both their strengths and weaknesses.

  • They Should Recycle as Much as Possible

Often, the things that we might be disposing of can be either recycled or donated to those in need. A good junk removal company will not only pick up and dispose of your trash, but they will also make an effort to recycle everything they possibly can.

Objects that are still in decent condition can and should make their way to those who could use them. The company you choose should have contacts with local non-profits and charities. There is no need for functional items to be sent to a landfill if they can instead be donated schools or shelters, for example.

When you first begin your search for a junk removal company, be sure to ask about their ability to recycle. The more that we can do to divert items from heading to landfills, the better.

  • Look for Timely Service

If you have chosen a dependable junk removal company, they should ideally be able to accommodate you with no more than 24 hours from the time you contact them. You may choose to extend that to 48 hours depending on your needs, but once a company requires a week, or even simply several days to come out for a pick-up, that should be a warning sign for you.

  • Do They Offer Full Service?

This is a pretty straightforward question, and the answer should be “yes”.

Full service means just what is sounds like: the junk removal company should be responsible for all aspects of the job, from beginning to end. They should meet with you to offer a quote, and then when the time comes for the actual pickup, they should be collecting everything themselves. You should not be responsible for any of it. Leave the lifting to them.

If the company suggests that you need to arrange things for them, that is another warning sign. For example, they may ask you to collect everything in one convenient location, but given that you are hiring the company, it doesn’t make sense for you to be doing work for them.

A good company will not balk at going to your attic or basement to pick things up. None of the heavy lifting or preparation should fall to you. If the company you are meeting with suggests that you need to have everything ready for them in advance, or if they are unwilling to go up and down some stairs, then it is recommended that you find a different company.

  • Do They Charge by Volume?

This is actually an important point. You want to make sure that they will charge based on volume. If they arrive at your home and collect your items, but only fill half their truck in doing so, then you should not be charged for a full truck.

When looking to hire a company, you want them to go to your property in order to make an accurate estimate. They will not be able to do so by phone or by email. They will need to see what they will be taking, unless it is a simple matter of one or two standard-sized items.

The junk removal company should do an on-site evaluation (for free) and then offer you a firm price. If they are not willing to do so, and insist on giving a quote over the phone, you should politely refuse and then proceed to find another company.

In closing, you are obviously free to choose any company that you wish, but these are some of the more important questions that you should be asking. You may have other questions based upon your specific needs and circumstances, so take your time when choosing, do a bit of research and be sure to properly inform yourself.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You are paying good money to have this work done, so you should start by ensuring that things will be done correctly, rather than waiting until work is underway and you are disappointed. By looking for the above points to be met, you should be assured of getting the right company for the job.
